Lake DeForest Water Treatment Plant Upgrades
J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc., with design partner Gannett Fleming, was recently contracted by Veolia Water New York to design, construct, and implement new water treatment processes and facilities at the Lake DeForest Water Treatment Plant in West Nyack, New York.
The existing Lake DeForest Water Treatment Plant has been in operation since the 1960s. In recent years, Veolia Water has experienced elevated water quality challenges at this facility, including moderate total organic carbon levels, the seasonally elevated presence of dissolved iron and manganese, dissolved oxygen and PH fluctuations because of algal growth, and odors and tastes also as a result of the algal growth. In order to provide a long-term fix to these issues, Creamer has put together a design-build team to provide Veolia with high quality construction for the duration of the project. This is especially important because all upgrades must be installed with minimal interruptions to current plant operations, as the plant will remain active throughout construction. Construction began in September of 2020 and is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2024.
