BALTIMORE WATER MAINS

Baltimore Gas & Electric Company, the main utility supplier for gas and electricity in Baltimore, Maryland, stores and distributes liquid natural gas (LNG) to thousands of customers from their Spring Garden Facility.  The three large white tanks that store LNG rise above the elevated sections of the highway less than a mile from downtown Baltimore.

In the Summer of 2007, J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. was awarded a contract to install approximately 1,800 feet of new water lines, with new valves, fire hydrants and services. The following year a second  phase was awarded to install  and additional 3,120 feet of new mains with associated valves and hydrants. The new lines ranged in diameter from 6-inch through 16-inch and most were to be used for fire suppression. Over 2,700 tons of contaminated soils and over 100,000 gallons of contaminated water were removed from the site for proper treatment and disposal at locations in York, Pennsylvania and Newark, Delaware.

In addition to the installation of the new water lines, Creamer was also awarded a contract to replace the existing fire pumps and associated valves and piping in the two pump stations on the site.
