Payroll Manager

Location: Hackensack, NJ

Under general direction from the controller, the payroll manager oversees payroll administration. The Payroll Manager is responsible for monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives, including relationships with external auditors and state and federal agencies. The majority of the employee’s time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the payroll department. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.

Requirements:

To function effectively in this position an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or similar field or equivalent is required. 

 

Ten years of relevant experience in a payroll capacity is required and 3-5 years of managing payroll associate operations.  Advanced knowledge of the construction industry and Union payroll environment is highly preferred.

  • Microsoft Suite of products
  • Union payroll experience – preferred
  • Payroll software certification – preferred
  • Professional payroll certification - preferred
  • Superior interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively within the company and with external officials
  • Experience with software implementation and related training is preferred

Responsibilities:

The majority of the employee’s time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the payroll department. This position requires an extremely detail orientated person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations.

  • Responsible for overseeing the processing of companywide payroll; to include union and non-union personnel, weekly and bi-weekly payroll schedules
  • Ensures accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings, garnishments, deductions and company deductions or adjustments
  • Compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management
  • Supervises Payroll Associates; Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll procedures; Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met
